They had been coming here for many years and had stayed in various condo units and homes and wanted a place they could reserve for the next 5 years.

What I found most interesting was during our conversations, we began talking about various myths and oddities related to Panama City Beach, Florida.  We had a good laugh but I found myself thinking, I wonder how many other people have heard these myths and believe them?

There isn’t anything to do – This couldn’t be further from the truth.Every time I have gone to Panama City Beach there has been so much to see and do that I didn’t have the opportunity to get it all done.No matter who is vacationing with you, there is something for everyone.For the adults, there are golf courses, deep sea and shallow water fishing, boat rentals, museums, concerts, shopping, dining, a plethora of beach activities, and beautiful state parks, like St. Andrews and Camp Helen for hiking and camping.For the more adventurous types, Panama City Beach offers water parks, go-carts, put-put golf, arcades, para-sailing, bungee jumping, snorkeling and scuba diving, jet ski tours and rentals, and so much more.From spending an afternoon on Shell Island, a pristine white sand undeveloped island that is approximately seven miles long, and is home to one of the world’s highest concentrations of bottle-nosed dolphins, to an evening of fine dining on the Gulf of Mexico as you watch the sun set, Panama City Beach has it all!
2. There isn’t any good food to eat – This myth is my personal favorite.There are a variety of every type of food that you could possibly want to eat in Panama City Beach.There is an excess of pancake and waffle places for breakfast, every type of fast food possible, a plethora of fresh local seafood, several locally owned Greek restaurants, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, all the chains you could possible want, and several award winning restaurants that are located right on the Gulf of Mexico – where you can step off the dining room floor and stick your toes in the sand.You will not go hungry in Panama City Beach.
3. There’s no place to stay – This is just a blatant lie.Panama City Beach has more rental units than many other U.S. vacation destinations.From campgrounds to RV parks, motels to hotels, condominiums to, short term home rentals, and even cabins.You name the type of accommodations and Panama City Beach has it!Staying in a gulf front condo on the beach is one of the best ways to get the most out of your Panama City Beach vacation.
4. It is too expensive – I’m not exactly sure where this rumor came from, but Panama City Beach is actually less expensive than other comparable U.S. destinations.As an example: The construction of additional vacation rentals has driven the price of accommodations’ down significantly.Did I mention, beach access is always free in Bay County. You’ll be hard pressed to find a less expensive beach vacation in the U.S..
5. It’s a party town – Panama City Beach is a calm, relaxing, and laid back place to vacation.If you aren’t into the wild party scene, Panama City Beach probably is not the place for you during spring break.However, spring break season occurs during the months of March and the beginning of April, leaving the remaining 10 1/2 – 11 months of the year available to enjoy everything that Panama City Beach has to offer.If however, the wild spring break scene and partying at the worlds largest nightclub, Club La Vela, is what you crave – you want to visit Panama City Beach in March.
6. The area is trashy – This may have been a concern in the late 1990′s and early 2000’s, but not now.Panama City Beach is a new and vibrant city thanks to the many construction and community redevelopment projects that have been implemented over the years.The main street is lined with luxurious condominiums, dining and entertainment districts.The white sand beaches and emerald green waters are as beautiful as ever and the area is well maintained for everyone’s enjoyment.

The beaches are dangerous – The Panama City Beach Police and Sheriff’s Department have units dedicated solely to patrolling the beaches which ensure safety for all visitors and citizens.Common sense should always prevail, and as long as you paying attention to the warnings you should be safe.The Beach and Surf Information Unit keeps a close watch and places highly visible surf warnings in areas where people swim. If the flags indicate stay out of the water, then guess what?  Stay out of the water!
8. The beaches are overcrowded – There are certain times of the year when the beaches are more crowded than others.Luckily, Panama City Beach has 27 miles of beaches.There are numerous beach parking and accesses up and down the coast. If you are looking for something more low key, St. Andrew’s State Park is the place to go.This state park has over a mile and half of dedicated natural beach, and other various recreational activities as well.
9. You will be eaten by a shark – People flock to beaches each year at many vacation destinations across the U.S. and shark attacks are very rare shark attacks.Sharks do live in the water, and no matter what beach vacation you take you will hear tales about sharks.Stop worrying and enjoy the water, you have a better chance of being struck by lightening.
10. Your vacation will be ruined by hurricanes – I wouldn’t worry too much about this one.Hurricanes, unlike other natural disasters have plenty of warning before they approach.Book your vacation in advance and purchase cancellation insurance if you are coming during peak hurricane season.If a hurricane does happen to occur, you will be insured and can plan another vacation at a later date.
